The AK-105 is a modification of the AK-101, AK-103, and the AK-74M, with a barrel that has been shortened to 101 mm in length. The intermediate barrel length (between that of the AK-74M and the AK-74U) allowed the size of the weapon to be reduced, while leaving the gas chamber in the same place in relation to the face of the breech, as in the AK-74M, and not moving it backward (as with the AKS-74U). This further unified the entire “AK-10x” family of rifles.
